Overwhelmed

Has someone ever asked you what you do all day? Well being a minister you get it all the time. The accountability is nice, but the sad thing is that people don’t know what their ministers do all day and most of the time they assume nothing. If I didn’t preach one Sunday the church would think I went to the beach, which is true once a year.

First of all, if you have ever worked in the ministry then you know it is 24-7. Next, it is relational and at least a majority of the time for me, enjoyable, which brings about mass confusion from others. How can hanging out with people be work? That person enjoys what they do, that can't be work.

However, dealing with church insurance, rental space, meeting with other pastors, brainstorming, meeting with our association, going to conferences, preparing for Sunday, preparing for sermons, placing ads in the paper, implementing leadership, meeting w/ the finance team, planning a mission trip, setting up service opportunities, taking classes, writing papers, sending emails, & juggling a family is tough.

It is easy to get overwhelmed & to worry, but God calls us to have a proper prospective. I pray I don't let ministry suck the life out of me. I pray I draw my strength from the Lord and continually look to him. I know many others can get overwhelmed with their to do list as well. Just remember, Matthew 6:33...
